I will be presenting at my first conference in September and then again at a bigger one in October! I am full of nerves just thinking about it! How and I going to do it, you ask? Good question! I have no idea!
Here's my current plan for the next 8 weeks to learn how to get ready and learn as many tricks as I possibly can for an hour long presentation at a conference with people who I have never met... Dun, dun, duuuuun!
Week 1: Create Slides for Presentation
Week 2: Practice with a "Presenter Expert"
Week 3: Practice with a colleague (like minded professional who can give me feedback as someone who might attend and sit in a similar conference) Also, connect again with Presenter Expert
Week 4: Finalize Presentation and Present! (Take 1...eeeek!) Presentation: September 26th
Week 5: Reflect! Discuss how the presentation went with Presenter Expert and revamp presentation using attendee data to help tailor it better for the next presentation.
Week 6: Practice with a few colleagues and the Expert
Week 7: Finalize Presentation and work on how to advertise so people come to my session (otherwise I'm presenting to an empty room after all that work!)
Week 8: Advertise for Presentation and Present! (Take 2) Presentation: October 24th
You got this Jen! I love your background on your blog spot. Can you tell me how I can do something with mine? Yes, I do require step by step details because I will be turning 41 soon. AY YI YI!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! I am super impressed and amazed at your organization and ability to challenge yourself professionally! Have your chosen your topics already? What type of conferences are they? Have you also thought about practicing and presenting to people who have no knowledge of your subject matter? Just a thought! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Jameka,
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am presenting at two separate CUE Conferences. CUE stands for Computer Using Educators. The first conference is on a smaller scale in Sacramento during September and the second one is on a larger scale in October. It is on using math apps to differentiate for Common Core math.
Here's what will be listed:
"Differentiate math instruction with only a few devices in your classroom: participants will leave with a list of Apps and strategies to easily assess, differentiate, and enhance learning in the classroom."
So far the only person that I've presented on that has no knowledge is my husband. However, I think that would be incredibly valuable to present with others that have little knowledge on the subject as well...it would tell me how well I am actually explaining it and how I might better need to phrase parts. Thanks for the idea!
That's cool that you are presenting in two different conferences. I'm interested in the the math apps for common core, having the Math CCSS in an app would make it a whole lot easier than the paper or the website.
